Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker—a potential running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign—will address the ABA House of Delegates at the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.
Pritzker, who was elected the 43rd governor of Illinois in 2018 and reelected in 2022, will speak to the House at 9 a.m. Aug. 5, the ABA announced on Friday. A member of the ABA, he earned his law degree from Northwestern University in 1993. He is also a prominent business leader and philanthropist in Chicago.
President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he’d decided to exit the 2024 presidential race and endorse Harris for the Democratic nomination. Pritzker is reportedly one of several state governors being vetted as a possible running mate for Harris.

The House, the association’s policymaking body, meets during the ABA’s annual and midyear meetings to discuss and debate matters of importance to the legal profession and society. Recent past speakers to address the House at its assemblies include U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and now-retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. At this year’s annual meeting, its members will convene Aug. 5-6 to consider more than three dozen resolutions and amendments.
The ABA Annual Meeting runs July 31 to Aug. 6 at the Hyatt Regency and other locations in downtown Chicago.
