Honeywell and Chevron Team Up to Improve Refinery Safety with AI

The collaboration aims to develop AI-assisted solutions that enhance safety and efficiency in refining operations.

Honeywell and Chevron have announced a collaboration to develop AI-assisted solutions to boost safety in refining operations, using AI to support decision-making and optimize efficiency in processes such as alarm management systems.

According to a recent release, the two companies aim to enhance operational reliability and reduce incidents by integrating AI into Honeywell’s Experion distributed control system (DCS), A key feature is an alarm guidance application that analyzes historical data to help operators make informed decisions to maintain smooth operations.

“Advancements in AI will change the way companies like Chevron innovate, learn and solve problems at the plant level” Lucian Boldea, president and CEO of Honeywell Industrial Automation, said in a statement. “AI-Assisted automation is key to helping improve industrial plant performance while also addressing industry’s workforce shortage through institutional knowledge capture, workflow digitalization, and accelerating the learning curve for the next generation.”

The partnership reflects a broader industry trend toward increased automation, focusing on improving plant performance while ensuring safety and reliability. Chevron’s integration of AI into refining processes aims to streamline operations and prepare its workforce for future challenges.
