It’s no secret that Florida has a large population of elderly residents. Sometimes, these people are unable to care for and live by themselves. This situation might leave senior citizens’ adult children with no choice but to place their aging parents in nursing homes. However, a recent lawsuit and allegations against a Boca Raton senior care facility might have you second-guessing this decision.

Preventing falls

As people get older, they often lose the strength that their bodies once had. Also, senior citizens can develop various ailments that affect their balance. That’s why fall prevention is so important as people age. Unfortunately, the family of a recent Boca Raton nursing home resident alleges that this facility didn’t receive proper fall protection. Not protecting nursing home residents from falls can lead to severe injuries or death.

A lack of patient hygiene

One of the more disturbing allegations against this Florida care facility involves a criminal lack of patient hygiene. This recent lawsuit noted that staff failed to “obtain treatment to prevent” worsening wounds suffered by the patient. The lawsuit also alleges that this facility left this patient in his own waste.

Leaving a patient’s family in the dark

When situations involving nursing home abuse and neglect happen, family members or other caretakers must learn this information right away. Unfortunately, this lawsuit alleges that this Boca Raton care facility made no attempts to “notify the family and physicians” of the patient.

The family of this former nursing home patient is now seeking to obtain damages of over $30,000 from this facility. This lawsuit isn’t the only one faced by Encore at Boca Raton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, the nursing home in question.
